New rules for tourist visa?
Hi,
My wife and me are in the U.S. on H1-B / H-4 visa. My wife's parents
went to the American Consulate in India to apply for a tourist visa.
They were refused admission and asked to bring the following with
them:
1. Copies of mine and my wife's passport (all pages).
2. Our original birth certificates (note: ORIGINAL).
3. Copies of our VISA or form I-797 (H visa extension approval
notice).
4. Invitation letter from me.
Note: They were here two years ago and had stayed for 4 months with
us.
Has anyone heard out these new rules?
Thanks,
Kaushik

These are NOT new rules ... simply the consular official wants to ensure
the validity of the claim that they are coming to visit someone whose
presence in the US is legal ... This has always been at the discretion
of the consular official.
