A lawyer was used for our application. We didn't pay them the company husband now works for did. They did it because they wanted to make sure everything was completed 100% and nothing was missed. I would rather be sure everything is complete, accurate and ready to go that stress myself out worrying that I have missed something. I was a wreck at the Embassy for the interview and that was with all the documents the lawyers had helped us with. US immigration is a mine field that personally I would rather have someone experienced in these matters with to help me through it. That is just my personal experience. If we go through the green card process we will likely use the same lawyers. It is a personal choice.
