My own fault as didn't really think about the implications until today but my driving license and I-797 (notice of action/I-751 receipt notice) are expiring at the same time (in a week) so I won't have any proof of my status when trying to renew my DL. I am currently awaiting removal of condition on my marriage based GC which I applied for almost exactly one year ago.

I have tried booking an infopass appointment to get a i-551 stamp but there are no appointments in my state (NC) in the next 14 days (will check again first thing in morning).

My question is: will I be able to get my DL renewed using my I-797 and an explanation of the fact that I'm still waiting for removal of conditions on my GC or am I going to have to wait until I have that i-551 stamp?

I don't know about NY, but my guess is you'll have to show the I-551 stamp, since the 1-year extension letter is expiring.

That's what I suspected... I guess I'll just have no driving license for a week or so assuming I can get an infopass appointment for 2 weeks time when I look in the morning. Will be fine as wife and I work in same city etc; could have been pretty screwed otherwise.

I agree with Rene, they aren't going to renew your DL without some proof that you are still a PR.
