Default n400 - Previous legal name vs other names

Hi, I'm filing my N400 and am confused by a couple of the questions on there. I'm filing based on the fact I've been married to a USC for 3 years as a permanent resident. I got my GC in 2015, through employment. My wife hasn't been previously married before me.

For 'current spouses legal name', I've put her name as it is now. i.e. Mrs pejp. but then there are two follow up questions...

1. Has your current spouse ever used a previous legal name?

2. Has your current spouse used any other names since birth? (Other names used may include nicknames, aliases, and maiden names.)

The second question explicitly states it includes maiden names, but then I don't understand the first question, as surely her maiden name was a legal name? But then if I say 'yes' to the first question and include her maiden name, it doesn't make sense to answer yes to 'has your current spouse used any other names since birth'? Any idea what I should do here? I'm assuming the first questions means has she legally changed her name at any point, or been married before, and I should say 'no' and then just answer yes to the second question, but I want to be sure. any idea?

I read it that question 2 says "other," as in other than those noted in question 1. I used to sometimes hyphenate my maiden name (which I use) with my OH's name, though I didn't consider it a legal name, and I would put that in 2, while my own name and my prior married name would go in 1 as being legal names.

I agree. I would add that it is "no harm, no foul" to provide the name twice. 😀
