Re: N-400 timeline
Scarlett and Trasler, thanks for your info. I have been helping my bf
with his N400. We are dealing with the Texas Service Center as well.
They sent the notice June 6, 2006 saying that they received the
application May 31st along with the payment. We received the
Fingerprint Notification on June 14th; His appointment was July 5th.
We were expecting to hear back from them in Dec 2006 but we're still
waiting. I saw that they are now processing cases with the receipt
notice date of June 15, 2006. I'm really hoping to hear from them this
month, the status is still "pending" online.. If we do hear from them
this month, does anyone know how long it will take to get the
interview and have the whole process over with?

Well the receipt says Mesquite, Texas. But we live in the Houston
area. So I'm guessing our interview will be in Houston.. I'm just very
curious to know how long it will take for him to get his citizenship.
We're planning on getting married and I still can't let my family know
an approximate month for them to come visit.. I am from a foreign
country as well. I was on a student visa and my practical training has
expired now.. We already live together and been together for a few
years and I'm scared to go home and not be able to come back. I'm just
WAITING here for him to get his papers. Are we doing the right thing?
When I had talked to a lawyer last year, she told me it is better to
get married to a citizen than a green card holder. So that's what
we're doing, only it is taking longer than expected... If anyone has
feedback on the situation, please, any info will be appreciated

Re: N-400 timeline, Dallas (Oct 06- )
Okey dokey, had my interview today at the Dallas CIS offices. Here's what happened.
I arrived about 30 minutes early. There was plenty of parking available.
Note that you can't bring any cellphones, cameras or recording devices into the building, so leave 'em in the car.
They called me through right about on time. They administered an oath to me to tell the truth, and then we got started.
The agent wanted to see my driving license, passport and green card. That was all she asked for, though I had brought all kinds of other goodies (Texas driving record, proof of previous divorce, etc.).
She checked my passport entry stamps against the periods out of the country I'd put on my application form.
She asked me the civics questions. I scored 10 out of 10 (she carried on asking the questions even after I'd answered the requisite 6). The 10 questions were all out of the civics questions booklet I was given after my fingerprints were taken.
I was asked to read one simple sentence and write another.
She then went through my N-400, asking me to answer verbally many of the questions I'd answered on the form.
After that, we were pretty much done. Took about 20 minutes altogether. I must now wait on a date for the oath.

I'm not a lawyer. This is opinion, not advice!
