Moving from UK to USA (Around Kissimmee area)

Myself,Husband & 2 children are looking at making the big jump from moving to America...
I’m a self employed Hairdresser & Makeup artist. And my Husband owns his own building company.

Hi, welcome to BE.

Just checking, but is one (or both) of you a US citizen? Or do you have a route to a visa?

We get a lot of people on the forum who have no idea that’s it’s impossible for most to get visas to live in the US, so just checking you’ve got that sorted as a first step!

Thankyou for your reply!
No both myself & Husband are UK Citizens. Can you give any information on which VISA is ideal for self employment?

Look at the BE Wiki article called Pulaski's Ways. It lists all the available visas.

Your line of work probably won't lead to anything, but what kind of business does your husband own?

Oh, you said building. Is that construction?

Ah. Definitely look at visas first then, no point in worrying about schools etc unless you can move. This Wiki article is a good place to start - https://britishexpats.com/wiki/Pulas...rk_in_the_USA_

For self employment it will depends on how much you’ll be investing, and how many US citizens you’ll be employing really. Do also look in to health insurance if you’ll be self employed and budget for that.

Another thing to be aware of is that not all investment/business visas will lead to permanent residency (‘green card’), so your kids may have to leave the US when they age out.

If you can give more info (how many staff you’d have, amount you’d have to invest, and if your UK company would be left running), then the forum pros will be able to tell you if there’s a visa that would suit.

HTH, good luck.

No point exploring dream Land if you can't live there. Stick to Disney vacations.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but with the information you've provided, you will not be making the move as there is little to no chance of a visa (not VISA, that's a credit card)!!

If we had a dollar for every person who posts on this forum with the dream of moving, we'd be rich - and it's not a dream. In fact, for many who have no idea of what the USA is actually like outside of a two-week vacation in the House of Mouse, it's a potential nightmare.

As you will not be doing any more than vacationing, the re is no point in going into detail of schools, etc.

Why have you chosen this area if you have no idea whether it's even suitable for your family? Have you researched whether there is even a gap in the market for this business there?

Kissimmee is a city in central Florida's Osceola County, just south of Orlando. It’s defined by its proximity to the region’s multitude of amusement parks, including the massive Walt Disney World Resort complex.

Sounds like a E2 or an EB5, the latter f you want a GC.

once one of your kids marries a us citizen, you may be eligible for a visa.. other options may be available.

EB-5, the minimum went up to $1,000,000 if I recall right. You may get some of the investment back but don’t count on it:https://www.uscis.gov/working-united...classification

If he intends to do a similar business in the US I would also say he should become fluent in Spanish, as that is likely to be the first language for many of his workers.

Based on what you have said, you won't be coming to the US an anything other than a tourist.

Despite it's reputation, the US is actually one of the hardest countries to get a visa for to live and work.
