Hi all, My name is Nathan I am 22 and fully qualified electrician. I want to move to Florida from the UK. I need to know how to get green card, social security, bank account.
Would a need a lawyer?

Any info at all would be great.

I know it won't be easy but anythings possible right, One way or another I am moving to Florida.

In order to live and work in Florida you have a few choices:

- get a work visa from employer that will sponsor you
- get married to US citizen
- work for company in the UK and then get company to transfer you to the US - again you will need visa before your company can do this
- investment visa

Note that jobs which qualify for a visa usually need a education at degree level, and/or management executive level. As far as I am aware electrician jobs do not qualify for a visa.

You may find that marriage to a US citizen will be your only option.

I have been to Florida multiple times and love it.

Well I'm gonna try other ways than marriage first but if it's my only option

Anything is possible, sure, if you make this a 5 to 10 year plan. It might involve going back to school to get a degree, changing careers, etc.

Yeah, probably closer to 10. 5-6 years for a master's degree and a good few years experience at a company that will transfer.

You can't really count on the marriage route, anyway. There's no guarantee you'll find Ms Right to be American.

I can't be changing careers I love my work, it pays good and I spent 4 years getting qualified. It looks like marriage is the only option for me. Thanks for all the feedback people

Note that getting married purely to gain immigration benefit is illegal.

And what would you do if you found the perfect woman, who happened to be American, but she was as hell-bent on living in England as you are on Florida? Divorce her?

They will if they are only looking for an American spouse to get their green card. Seen it happen on these forums numerous times.
