Default Missing Tax Form

After too much delay my wife and I finally are getting together her
package to file for citizenship. To our great frustration we cannot
find our tax returns for 2002.

The instructions for documentation needed read as follows: "Documents
referring to you and your spouse: tax returns, bank accounts, leases,
mortgages, or birth certificates of children, OR IRS-certified copies
of the income tax forms that you both filed for the past 3 years, OR an
IRS tax return transcript for the last 3 years."

The first option mentions "tax returns" with no specification of last
three years. We do have returns for 4 of the last 5 years, property
titles on cars and a home, bank accounts, and I was going to attach
copies of the letters we submitted with her AOS and removal of
conditions petitions.

I would appreciate some feedback as to whether we should go ahead and
file without the 2002 return.

Happy Holidays to all!

Why not just order the transcript of the year you are missing? There is a 1-800 number to do this and it's free. I forgot the number.

I am sure someone in this fourm has it and will pop in an post it. It took me about a week to get mine. I would hurry before the IRS become really busy for the year!!!

I think my husband was ordering copies of tax returns from IRS.

I believe ours was free of charge (up to 3 years). The person on a phone from IRS was actually very helpful. Try calling IRS.

She needs the tax returns as that is part of proving your good civic stead. Order the tax transcripts from the IRS via their automated system. Will arrive in 5 to 10 days. These are considered the IRS certified copies and they are free.

Thanks to all, I knew there was such an option but did not realize how
quick the turnaround was.
