Default minor children and signatures on immigration forms

Hello all, have a petition for stepson in the NVC stage. Received "choice of agent" form. Question is: do we have to spend the money and time to send the form half way around the world so a 12 year old child can sign it, or is it legal for the mother, who is in the US awaiting AOS to sign it for him? Thanks for your help.

Either one is fine. When parent signs, I have them sign in their OWN name follwed by "(mother)". That makes it clear who is signing and in what capacity. Do not have mom sign in child's name.

Thank you Mr. F, that's answer I was hoping for. Appreciate your quick response.
