I called one of 'civil surgeon' for med exam appointment in orlando, fl, and i was told it cost 300 cash. they dont accept private insurance. is it normal for a civil surgeon to only collect cash?

Cash, personal check, perhaps a credit card. It's common for them not to accept private insurance, yes.

Try calling back and asking if a personal check or major credit card is acceptable.

You cannot use private insurance for the exam itself, but you CAN use it for any vaccinations or X-rays that may be required.

Insisting on cash seems very unusual though. He/she should take a check or credit card.

Also, I would shop around as $300 is rather high - we paid half that.

And further, accepting credit cards is not free to the merchant. Maybe that doc doesn't want the additional 2-6% charge from his bank.

I would say probably yes, your FSA would cover it. It was, after all, just a regular medical exam. Keep your receipt and turn it in for reimbursement.
