This thread has already gone quite badly off track. And I am disinclined to straighten it out.

I do have one question: what was the nature of the "partnership?" A B-2 visa is a possibility for some unmarried partners of E-2 non-immigrants.

There are many issues hat might be a good idea to explore.

Hi all,

Thank you so much for responding to my post. I am Asian and whilst English is not my first language, I do try to have a better command of the language. I must admit some comments are off-putting but I wish them well and may them find happiness.

Anyway, unless my broken English is going to be the absolute ground for refusal of entry to US - it is not the subject matter of the post.

My boyfriend is a French who works in US with a E-2 visa. His relocation to US was pretty last minutes, so we don’t have the time to tie the knot prior to that.

As many of you have pointed out, the process for adjustment of status is not applicable to our case since my boyfriend is neither an American nor is he a green card holder. Not sure if it matters here, but we have no desire to stay in US permanently. My country is not part of the VWP. So I have to enter US with B-2 visa. The comments from Rene and Shiversaint are well noted and these are what I understand as per my own research.

We just got to know few people who went through the process of marrying E-2 visa holder while on B-2. Will update once I have more definite answer (or after I have a personal experience with the process).

Thanks again.

I know, that is precisely what I was trying to say. Others had used the term "adjustment". In the OP's case it is "Change".

She would no longer be here on a tourist visa, so that, in my book, counts as some form of adjusting status.

I understand what you mean, but the correct term for that is "change", not "adjust".

Yes but there are precise "terms of art" to avoid confusion:
The INA uses the term "adjust" for switching from non-immigrant to permanent resident (and also vice versa although that is quite rare)
The INA uses the term "change" for switching form one non-immigrant category to another.
