I did, before becoming a USC. I liked to use it whenever asked for ID, usually in support of a credit card transaction, or at a bank. I am certain that almost nobody knew what I was showing them, and only TWO people asked what it was.

I always do that as well, but it doesn't necessarily work. (This one bouncer was from... Ghana, I think he said, and he just shook his head and said "no, I know what the deal is with those things. State ID only." I couldn't get him to tell me what he meant by "the deal".)

Most Americans are totally confused by any ID that isn't a state driving license. My daughter once showed her US passport card and the person she showed it to thought it was a fake ID purchased in a novelty store. Many people don't even know that there is such a thing as a US passport card.

Just saw this thread - congratulations! I'm still on the fence regarding citizenship. I've been here over 23 years (on my 3rd Green card). I never carry mine with me. I keep it in my fireproof container. I suppose I really should carry a copy of it with me - never felt the need.
