I expect to immigrate with my American wife somewhere in early 2002, and the point of
entry will most likely be LAX Airport, Los Angeles.

I am a Dutch citizen, we have been married for 2 years, and we will apply for a visa
trough the Amsterdam Consulate. They will stamp my passport, put in a visa sticker,
and send me off Legally i don't think I will have any trouble, I speak good
English, we have been married for more then 2 years (almost , I work in ICT, I have
no criminal record, and the relations between the USA and the Netherlands are
excellent.

Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with the INS officers at LAX? Are they more
strict? What could happen if they have a *really* bad day the day I arrive? ) Just
the "what-ifs" that go trough my mind recently.... Anyone?

On the other hand, Holland has a notorious drug problem and Amsterdam is the Porn
capital of the world. Many master criminals are Dutch and there is a large trade in
smuggling windmills and cheese.

I really would find something better to worry about. If your papers are correct and
you do not show the INS official your ass you should be fine

You have most that correct. Your wife will direct consular file for you in Amsterdam via the I-130. After your interview you will be given a brown envelope which you will give to the INS officials at your POE (LAX you think will be your POE). At that point the INS will stamp your visa with the I-551 green card equivalent stamp and send you on your way to your new home. Your actual green card will arrive via US mail at your US Address. You are free to work with the I-551 stamp and obtain a social security card.

Rita

PS they cannot have a bad day when you arrive. You cannot be denied entry at this point.

That's not true although it is very very very unlikely. Only US citizens have a
guaranteed entry to the US.

They can have a *really* bad month if they want. They still cannot deny you entry.

Well if he were caught bring contraband into the US, yes they would deny him. But no, outside of the obvious criminal reasons there isn't any way that they can deny him entry because he is in a pissed off mood.

the customs at the main international terminal at LAX is a zoo...when 4 or 5 big
boats land at the same time you might be on line for 1 hour or more...a thought-fly
either United or Delta into LAX if you can-they have their own customs and are much
less crowded, therefore agents are much less stressed out...
