Default Is L2 visa is still active while L1 holder is back to country

I am an L1A visa holder and currently my project is going to be over. However my wife is working with a valid EAD and L2 visa. Is her visa still valid, if I go back to my country? L1 visa is valid till Dec 2013 for both of us.

No. As soon as your L-1 work assignment ends, she can no longer stay in the USA on her L-2. You both must return home.

I would mildly suggest that this is a question with some very subtle undertones -- a private consultation with an experienced immigration lawyer might very well be in order.

Thanks for your response friends. However its not like that I am going back permanently, I have completed my current project and will be back in an other project within 2/3 months. I would like to know in such case should my wife have to leave her job and go along with me or she can continue till I come back?

Perhaps you should have mentioned that in your first post... as the natural assumption was that you were done with your L-1 visa - and we are not mind readers!

If you're only leaving temporarily and you will still be working for the same L-1 sponsor once you return to the US, then your wife's L-2 visa should remain valid for the duration, and she doesn't need to go with you.

Pointer -- an international executive/manager may travel a lot in their job duties and therefore have extended sojourns outside of the U.S.

YMMV based upon particular facts.
