L2 visa
Just wondering if anyone has any advice for L2 visa application. My husband and myself have our interview for L1 and L2 visa in August.
Hopefully we receive thie visa. My Husbands company has relocated him to Houston. I am hoping to work a s a nurse in Texas and I have filed for my exam and license. I just wondered if I am right in thinking that if we are successfula nd I receive my L2 visa, do I then apply for EAD by filing an I-765 form. Is there any other paper work I should be submitting in order to work on an L2. (all nursing paperwork is taken care of)
Any advice or anyone who has worked on an L2 visa and can let me know how they got on would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks :-)

Once you receive your L2 visa AND you are inside the USA, then you can file an I-765 for your EAD. Once you have your EAD in hand, you can apply for a SSN which your employer will probably require you to have. You can ask SS to give you a letter showing you've applied for the card, which your employer will accept. When you get the actual card, then you can give the employer the number.

EAD via marriage to a USC takes roughly 90 days, but I think L-2's might be quicker.

Re: L2 visa
When my wife renewed her EAD in March it took three months.
You can apply for a SS number about two weeks after arriving in the US. By that stage your i94 information will be in the SS system. I recommend getting the SSN first. You should have the SSN about two weeks after application.
I have heard that having the SSN number on the EAD applications speeds up the process.
Then apply for your EAD. Do a paper application rather than an electronic one, it's faster and you won't be asked to provide biometric information.
Either way I would give yourself a window of 4 months before you start working.

My EAD (L2) application went over 90 days and took closer to 120. There is an option to expedite it if the application goes over 75 days but not sure how useful that is, they declined my expedite request as it hadn't been 75 days yet (in fact it had, it was closer to 90 days at the time!) As someone else said, the paper application is apparently faster than the electronic one.

Unless you're a LPR/USC, it'll say something along the lines of needing to show employment authorisation to work regardless.

NCLEX examination is no push-over either. Lots of terminology, measurement, drug-name and procedural differences compared to what you might be used to, from nursing in the UK.
My wife was a senior Sister on an acute surgical ward in the UK, with 20 years experience in addition to being a nutrition nurse specialist, before we moved to the US.
She's a proper 'brainiac', but said she could never have passed the NCLEX exam without doing the study course first.

Once you become a Permanent Resident, you can get a new SS *card* that will not have the legend about employment authorization on the front.
Once you naturalize, you need to inform SSA that you are a citizen.

Thanks, that helps...We are moving over to the USA at the end of the month on L1-B/L2 (family and kids) and we were wondering whether to hold off getting SSN before getting EAD, but from my understanding, we should grab the SSN as soon as possible and apply for EAD once SSN received. Is this the preferred/quickest method?

Re: L2 visa
That contradicts the information provided above where it is recommended to get an SSN first as you can then use it on the EAD form....
