Hi I am 52 years old and have conviction for theft when I was 18, (34 years ago) I received fine and a 12 month suspended sentence. My company want to transfer me on an L1A visa which I believe I/ we qualify for in every other way, will this conviction prevent me from gaining an L1A and possibly a green card in the future? many thanks in advance.

I can tell you that it is a good idea to consult with an attorney knowledgeable in US immigration law. You may be just fine or problems can be fixed.

Presuming your company is using lawyers to process your application, why not ask them? At least they would be aware of the crime and be ready to deal with any issues which might arise.
34 years ago is an awfully long time.......
