L1 Visa and employment start date

Dear All

I've been a long time viewer of this board. I haven't posted before because all of my questions have been answered by doing a simple search on the board!

I have a question that I can't find the answer to.

My US L1a visa was approved on 31st July. I had originally planned on starting my job in the US on 21st August 2006. Due to some issues with reloaction it looks like I will not be able to arrive in the US to start my job on 21st August - but may have to delay this date by a week to make my new start date 28th August.

Does anyone know if this will somehow mess up my visa? My I-129S form states that my employment is from 21st August 2006 till 2009. Aside from that my letter of employment states that my start date is on or around 21st August.

Apologies if this is a stupid question ... after all of the trouble of arranging the visa I would hate to mess things up at this late stage!

Thanks.

No problem. My husband also delayed his start date by a few weeks. No trouble when entering

Also, while you are on the L visa, keep track of the time in the US.
Since there is a limit on the the length of time in that status,
extended time out of the country might be able to be added on the end
of the L1. For sure it is on H1 and who knows what the rules will be in
the future. Since you probably have to keep such records for tax
purposes, be sure to keep a copy for yourself.

I guess you know that a Visa is the document that lets you into the US.
Upon arrival you fill out a disembarkation card (I-94) which is put in
your passport. The I-94 is the document that shows if you are in the
country legally. The expiration of the I-94 usually coincides with the
expriation of the visa (and the visa usually follows the I-797 approval
document from the US immigration office).

FYI only, Bob

Hi Everybody,
I got my L1B visa on 22nd of Sep.2006 and I were planning to start 1st of November in USA. Due to several circumstances I have to delay my trip 2 more months, will this affect anything in my visa or stay in US?

Thanks for your help

Hi - I delayed my start date by a couple of weeks and there was no problem.

I spoke to someone at the embassy and they asked me to check the annotations section of the visa. As long as there is no date stipulation on the annotations then you should be fine. My annotation just said L1A ...

I would advise calling up the embassy and asking just to be sure.

Good luck!!!
