L1-B Go to the Consulate
Hi,
I have been advised by my immigration attorney that due to a high level of scrutiny, and denials, associated with L1-B extensions, it would be safer for me to apply for my extension through the London consulate, rather than going through USCIS.
She further stated that she is not aware of any specific time window during which the request can be made.
My visa expires in April 2014 and ideally I would like to apply for an extension right now, so that I have peace of mind.
I can see no reference to how early one is allowed to apply for a visa extension on the consulate website.
Does anyone have first hand experience ?
I could phone them ( no email ! ) but it costs a minimum of $18 for each call.
Any help greatly received.
Paul.

I believe you can apply for the petition extension only 6 months prior to the expiry date, this was the case with our O1 and H1B applications. I thought the Consulate only issues visas? Petitions are approved by USCIS.

I believe that because this is a Blanket L1, we don't need to individually petition.
That's not to say we don't need supporting casework though.
Thanks.

Oh yes you already have the petition. I am not sure but I would make an assumption if they don't allow people to renew petitions prior to 6 months before expiration, that visas may follow the same logic. The call centre wont know. Ask your attorney to find out..

You cannot do anything for a visa or petition until there are 180 days or less left on the current visa. So no point starting any research now
