Default J-1 no objection statement / o-visa / media visa

Evening,

read through the whole forums for the week and got a few questions on a few subjects so be easy on me. im a student finishing a BA degree course in Digital Media, expected to get a 2.1.

J-1 visa issued by bunac, would that consist of the 2 year home residnancy requirement? I do have student grants given by the council and loans student loans company, does this consitistute as government investment? I am trying to gain exemption from the 2 year rule if possible, is this rarely given?

I understand the J-1 visa waiver to the 2 year residency requires a no objection statement, should this be done once i have a j-1 with the requirement or before i apply through bunac?

I also have registered my boxing news site as a LTD and frequently travel to the usa for fights to report on, would this enable me to have a media visa and are they easily transferable to a work visa should i find work out there?

I am also a boxing editor/owner of a limited company, with little investment cash though. Would this strengthen or weaken my media/any visa?

would my specialist knowledge of boxing and ahtletes permit me to get an O visa should i find a job offer from an employer in that field?

I have also applied for the DV lottery. I was born in england and my parents are both from mauritius. Does this qualify me as i am unsure of the whole 21 and under/over rule regarding this.

whatever help you can give is appreciated.

Hi

What BUNAC scheme are you doing? I did the work America one this summer and specifically asked them about 2 year residency requirement because I wanted to start doing the K1 (fiance) visa while out there.

Anyway they assured me there is no 2 year residency requirement and lo and behold on my documentation the box was ticked 'not subject to 2 year residency requirement'.

Are you in your final year at Uni? I found the work America one easy to apply for as was in 2nd year so they had proof i was coming back to UK etc It was also great as I was able to live in the U.S for 4 months, work and get some experience (plus I got to live with my fiance for 4 months )

Anyway anymore questions about J1 or BUNAC just let me know.

in the same boat, dont want to be tied down to not returning to work in the usa when my long term plans are to return to work within 2 years/gf there too.

Will be doing work usa and trying to source a future job from a few leads.

What do bunac provide in terms of employment opportunities should i be unable to find a job on my own?

read through the endless amounts of visa threads (there are many, took me a while) and am i right in saying i cant extend the j-1 visa to 12 months, and i cant change the visa type to an o or i visa, only k?

What year of Uni are you in? The Bunac work America scheme specifically only works for 4-5 month periods i.e the summer period. You are allowed a max 4 months to work and then after that a month to travel around.

Bunac stands for British universities North America club. Thus, one of the requirements for the schemes is that you have to be enrolled at uni. You can be in the final year so you will graduate just before you go. Check out the requirements below.

http://www.bunac.org/uk/workAmerica/eligibility.aspx

As for finding your own work, that is what I did and I preferred it that way as you has more independence. If you choose to get work through Bunac you have to fly to New York for an orientation and also the jobs that were available through Bunac were mostly service industry jobs paying around the minimum wage.

If you do it yourself you have more flexibility but it does mean you have to find a job before your visa is granted. I was lucky because I had some connections in the field I wanted to work in (law) and then all the company has to do is sign a form stating they will employ you, there address etc.

The whole Bunac experience I found very good though, it was all very quick and helpful. I was in and out of the embassy in 10 minutes to get my visa and everything whilst in America went very smoothly.

In regards to changing to another visa whilst on the J1 - i don't know about this. I do know the work America J1 cannot be extended beyond the 4 months. However, I assume if you marry your American g/f while on the J1 you will be able to do an AOS to become a PR.

As for changing to a K1 visa from a J1 visa, I don't think this is possible (although someone with more immigration knowledge will have to clarify) as the K1 is submitted by the USC with the intention to bring their fiance to the US. Although you can start the process together while you are in the US (as I did) you will have to return to the UK to go through the other stages of the K1 that take place in London (such as the medical, embassy appointment etc).

This is all correct, as long as the J-1 does not have the 2-year HRR.
