Hi everyone.

Im just posting here to introduce myself and my fiancee, Bree. We are sure that we
will see a bit of this group as we go through the immigration hoops. pleased to meet
you all

Im living in Australia, shes' in the DC area. We plan to get married fairly soon
(limiting factors being me getting a job in the US and finances in general). We are
open at this point to marriage either in Australia or the US.

Bree is currently not working, but plans to get back into the work force after her
health improves a bit.

I'm an IT proffessional and could get a H1 visa if I found a sponsor.. but the guy at
the US consulate here told me that Id be better off coming in on a K1 visa, as I
would not be tied to one employer that way. He also said that marriage in the US is
preferable, as *she* may have trouble getting a visa to marry *here*, our Immigration
people being even more difficult in some ways than INS. Another piece of advice from
him was for her to bring her sponsor paperwork to .au when she visits, and fill it
out & lodge it together.

At this point, all we have done is I've sent away to Sydney for the K1 kit, and she
will be getting her paperwork shortly too. Shes coming to visit in a couple of weeks.
Any advice from the old hands in this group would be appreciated, especially towards
the official advice I've been given so far.

Looking forward to hearing from you, Mark & Bree

K1 is the way to go for the reasons you state.. Once you get here, you will have no
problem getting work in the DC area. Unless you work on some unknown Unix flavour
that they have never heard of.

Duncan.

Thanks Beth. Don't mind at all.

I've not spent as much time online as usual and just getting ready to leave for a visit with friends out of state for the weekend.

Hi There Mark

I am sure everything will go great. I went through the whole process through Sydney
last year. My name is Keely & I married my man here in Portland, Oregon. Sydney is a
great consulate to deal with. They are friendly & fast!!!! And will help you out with
any of your questions......though catching them on the phone can be quite a task
(LOL) All in all our whole application took just under 6 months. I left the US on
July 19th 2000 and arrived back here on January 19th 2001. I wish you goodluck in
whatever you decide on where you are getting married.

Keely
