Re: I'm so naive...
You'd be amazed how much easier this is to do when you live in/ spend a decent amount of time in the country in question, rather than sit in a classroom in a UK school. I lived in Switzerland for 3.5 years, and out of sheer necessity it didn't take long at all to go from 20+ year old basic school French, to being able to have hour-long parent-teacher conferences.

Perhaps take a year's course of study in NY or LA, get a student visa that allows part time work/OPT, build up your contacts and do some part time work in the film/broadcast industry. You'll find out if you actually like the place, and perhaps build your case for an O1.
As mentioned before, the bar is not as high as you might think. Living proof :-)

I don't think a 1-year-long course on an F-1 visa would allow for work in his field during the semesters, and probably not OPT,either, although it would be a good chance to network in the USA.

Are you sure? My sister-in-law is doing it right now, about to start OPT after a year on F-1. I'll ask her later for the details.

If you do an LLM in the USA on an F-1, would you be able to work in "the legal field" on an OPT for a year post-graduation, even if you had already passed the bar exam and were an admitted attorney?
Does the OPT have to be "training" or can it simply be employment in the relevant field of study?
I think it is the latter but the response here makes me uncertain.
