Default I751--follow up

Thanks for the replies, but I still don't know any better than before i
asked. anyway i am sure you guys will find my story interesting. I
almost sent no evidence with my application, went to the interview
with my wife (USC) with not even a ring on my finger. At the
interview, it seemed like the officer was going to approve me on the
spot in that hall where everybody was waiting. She just asked to look
at my wife's id maybe and then asked her to go have a seat. Everything
was smooth till i said we were not living together at the time because
i have to go to school somewhere else. then all hell broke loose.
called my wife back and started interviewing us in front of everybody.
who went to your wedding? how come you dont have rings? your passport
says you left country twice, how come she did not go too? do you guys
have a bed?--no we have a mattress because we are poor. Honestly i was
not taking the thing seriously because since i got my conditional we
have been through hell because i had to be in school in a different
town from the one where my wife has to fight custody cases with her ex.
it has been a hell of two years of moving back and forth and driving
back and forth. anyway, there is a lot of detail. my wife has bad
credit so we don't have anything with both of our names on it. she
does not have my last name. the officer asked why she does not have my
last name, my wife said because a lot of people do have it. I am from
a country that's not really wanted here. I told the officer when my
marriage is honest, you can tell even if i dont have evidence. I dont
even want to wear a ring to impress you. If this thing works for me,
it will be the luckiest thing. I think I got my first GC because i was
arguing with my wife in front of the officer. I can write more after
you guys read this.

Hmm well heres the thing... you DO need to do things to "impress" the officer. If you dont think you need to, well you cant really complain too much if you end up getting denied.

Hi Meem,

It's usually acceptable to be separated for reasons such as school or work. Why did you send almost no evidence with your application (I-751, right?) There must be some things you and your wife share names on. How about joint bank accounts, life insurance benefits, health insurance benefits, car insurance, rent, utilities. You guys might not have credit cards, but surely she lives somewhere and pays rent and utilities, drives a car, has insurance...? Your name can be on all those things. Did you guys go anywhere together and take pictures? It's ok to travel alone, but there should also be evidence that you did things together as well. Any family functions, holidays, birthdays, that you took pictures together? Sometimes my husband and I take pictures together for no reason at all, just around the house, just for fun and to have the memories later on. How about all the evidence that you indeed visited each other during your stay at school. Sounds like you made a lot of trips back to her city to see her...you should have lots of proof that you drove, flew, took a bus, whatever. You don't have to wear rings, I'd never seen anyone get denied simply because they don't wear a ring. Do you guys have any other things, jewelry or trinkets, that you gave each other as gifts or symbols of your union? My husband and I exchanged necklaces first, then 2 years later did a more formal engagement with rings. But if anyone had asked, I would have said the necklaces were our first sign of love for each other. I'm sure USCIS sees a lot of different types of meaningful evidence, and are open minded to everyone's different evidence.

So...what has happened now? Are they asking you to send more evidence? Hopefully you can collect some of the items I mentioned above, and get your conditions removed.

Best Wishes,
Rene
