I-485 AOS - how long does the process take

Hello, This is a great website and I am so pleased to be part of it... I joined in the early hours of this morning. Back to my question.... I came over here at the beginning of September - almost 3 months ago. My daughter is a US citizen and we decided to adjust my status. We filed all the forms (I-130, I-485, I-131, I-765, I-693) ourselves and I have received the receipts for each of them. No additional information has been requested, so I assume all is well.

On the receipt (i-797c) for the I-485 it says the next process is for my biometrics test and, according to immigration this should have been sent to me within 30 days of them receiving and accepting my petition. However, I am still waiting .... Does anyone know how long this process takes as I am getting conflicting messages from the immigration website and what I have been told verbablly.

Sorry, it is a bit long winded.

What date was the AOS package filed?

It can take longer than 30 days to get the biometrics appointment. If you know everything was received by USCIS, I'm sure you'll eventually get the biometrics appointment letter.

Hi Rene, I filed in early October to the Chicago Lockbox who checked the documentation and they sent it all to the MO MSC. There receipt date is October 18th.

OK, so it's been just over a month. I'm sure the biometrics appointments will come soon. Hang in there.

Timelines are a lot like the Pirate's Code... think of them more like guidlines rather than rules! So, it might be sent within 30 days... or it might not! :)

09/02/2010: Entered the USA under the VWP (3rd visit in 2010)
09/22/2010: Medical examination and vaccinations done. Form I-693 (Report of Medical Examination & Vaccinations completed.
10/07/2010: Filed I-130 (my daughter was the petitioner), also applied for and filed I-485 (AOS), I-765 (EAD) and I-131 (Travel Permit), along with supporting documents and sponsorship forms. We did not use a lawyer.
10/08/2010: All forms received by USCIS and 4 receipt notices dated 10/18/2010 (I-797c) mailed to me
12/09/2010: I-131 (Travel Permit) received
12/13/2010: I-765 (EAD) approved (this was approved before biometrics)
01/15/2011: Notice received to attend biometrics appointment
02/09/2011: Biometrics done
02/18/2011: EAD received
02/22/2011: SSN applied for
03/04/2011: SSN received
02/28/2011: AOS interview letter received
04/05/2011: AOS interview (actual interview took approximately 3 minutes)
04/13/2011: LPR (Green Card) received:D:D:D

180 days from filing my AOS (I-485) to interview and approval. Total of 188 days (10/07/2010 to 04/13/2011) until receipt of the actual Permanent Resident "Green Card".

This was my personal journey and anyone reading this may, and probably will, have a different journey as we all have unique circumstances. Adjusting Status while here in the USA under the VWP was a worrying, stressful time and only done because my daughter was sick and needs support and I need to help with the grandchildren.

I would like to thank all those that offered advice and gave me words of comfort during my journey to become a permanent resident. It was much appreciated :)
