Hi,
New to the US Forum & keen to find out how one goes about applying to go live in the US. I've learned about the 7 ways in an earlier post and belive I qualify as an investor. Can anyone recomend a visa agent that they've used (I assume that's how its done) and what the typical costs and time period is.
Thanks
G&L

The investor visa is notoriously difficult, mostly because when it was
first introduced in the 1990s, the program was abused by some people who
didn't really have the money. Then INS (now USCIS) issued contradictory
regulations and generally made a huge mess of the program. I think most
of that got straightened out by now, but it's still one of the more
difficult categories to qualify in. You need to find a competent
immigration attorney, as well as a good business plan for the new
business. You are right in that investor immigration is something you
don't want to do on your own, not unless you know exactly what you are
doing.
Given that the minimum investment is $1 million (in some areas, $500k
may be enough) of your own money (loans do not count), the lawyer's cost
is likely not going to be a huge factor, although I would still expect
around $10k, a little more if you also want to bring your family. For
the time period, I would expect at least a year or so, possibly two,
until you can move to the US, and then another up to three or so years
until you have an unconditional Green Card. You may be able to speed up
coming to the USA by first using an E-1 visa, but that is fraught with
some problems of its own.
