You become eligible for citizenship 5 years after becoming a PR (provided you
fulfill the residency requirements.)
It generally takes 6-9 months from filing to oath.

For reliable advice, consult a competent immigration attorney.

If married to American citizen, 3 years for marraige date. Otherwise, 5
years from resident status.

If you're truly asking how long it takes to apply, it's about 20 minutes... the time it takes you to complete the application form. Contrary to what others have said, it doesn't take 3 years or 5 years to apply... just 20 minutes. I'll point out that it may take you 3 years or 5 years to become *eligible* to apply.

Just a little more info. If married to an American citizen, 3 years from the date you became a PR, as long as you have been married to your USC spouse for a full 3 years, and you meet the residency and physical presence requirements.

If not based on marriage, then 5 years from the date you became a PR, as long as you meet the residency and physical presence requirements.

Sounds to me like you'd be eligible based on 5 years of being a PR, if you also meet the other requirements. As someone else pointed out, the time between filing the N-400 and the actual oath ceremony can be several months.

Best Wishes,
Rene

Depends on where you're filing, how complete your documentation is, and
how quickly the service center can process things. You can get a rough
estimate from the USCIS site, but it can range (at times). Remember
that you may be asked for more documentation, which can add months at
times. It is not unheard of for it to take more than two years to
become naturalized. Took me more than one year, but the New England
service centers and offices were the most backlogged at the time.

Even though I'm not a lawyer, you shouldn't believe a word I say either.

For most people, it is five years after becoming a lawful permanent
resident. For spouses of U.S. citizens, it is three years.

Almost right. For the spouse of a US citizen, it is 3 years (less 90 days) *if* the alien has been married to and living with that US citizen for a full 3 years. Marriage to a USC, alone, isn't sufficient.
