Default How to get started ... I need serious help

Hi

I just need some advice.

I am 21 years old and I am a British citizen, I have a girlfriend in the US and we would like to find a way to spend some time over there together before we think about mariage.

Her parents seem to think if I get a stamp in my passport to say Im looking for work and then go get a scocial security number I can start work but I dont think it is as easy as they think.

I would like a job in security because I not only enjoy that kind of work I do have qualifications in it. Also after the 9/11 attack there are lots of vacancies in the papers. Also you can apply online or over the phone. Although the more I look into it the more problems arise.

Other than that I would like to try schooling but it is expensive to say the least.

If all fails how hard would it be for my girlfriend to come and work and live in the UK ? Is it the same kind of process to get in the UK as it is to get into the US?

Finally.. If you know any websites or contacts that I could get intouch with to help me with my problems please let me know. Is it a sort of think you can write to the Embassy to find out ? and do they have an email address.
Do you know of any good websites to look at.

It would be nice if I had some good tips for a change instead of there is no hope lol .... it gets depressing at times lol.....

Please help!

Kind regards

Rich

No way. There is no "looking for work stamp" and you won't get an SSN
unless you can show you need one (and looking for work is not a reason
to be given one)

To the UK is much simpler and takes far less time, in general. Start
here <http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/>. If you don't do a marriage or fiance
visa she has to be able to get a visa on her own (work, student)

H1B is the common work sponsored visa, but you need a degree, so unlikely to get one, also have to wait till next year anyway.

As for the other way around, here's a start:
http://www.britainusa.com/visas/othe...5&Other_ID=322

and look around the rest of the site.
Getting into the States is really rather hard, nothing like the movies.
