How to get reinstate for out-of-status for F1?
A friend of mine was admitted as F1 student in Arts School in San Francisco.
He was enrolled full time for the last two years until last semester only 6 credit hours because two of his classes was canceled. The school official told him that two of his classes was canceled but didn't remind him that he still need to be full time at all time. Anyway, school official don't care to make sure he carrying a full load 12 credits, but he was short only 6 credits. Now, the school official wanted him to get re-instatement for his F1 visa before letting him go back to school again. BUT, the school don't want him to get re-instatement instead the school will give him a new I-20 and he need to apply for a new F1 visa from his country. That's would be Indonesia....... Question: How to get re-instatement if the school don't want to give any recommendation for re-instatement of his F1. He is out of luck... the only thing he can do is - apply a new F1 from Indonesia again, right? Any other suggestion? Thanks much. John |

He can try to put more pressure on the school to reconsider its decision to refuse to assist him with a request for reinstatement. He should get a faculty member, or better still the Chair of his department, on his side. He should ask for a meeting with him, and the faculty member, and the Director of the international office, and press strongly to obtain the school's help with reinstatement. The fact is that any application for an F-1 visa in Indonesia may very will be denied, and he may lose his chance at completing his education in the U.S. Also, this is the very type of reason that INS will accept fairly easily as an explanation for violating status. |
