Default How do I ask help from my congressman in NYC?

Hello - please help. I was checking the timeline of the I-485 cases
in NYC on the USCIS website and was greatly surprised to read that
they are now processing cases with receipt date of June 28, 2002!!!
We filed for our AOS back in January of 2002 and we have not received
anything at all. I called the 800 helpline and they have opened an
inquiry for our case. However, I have this strong feeling that I
cannot trust them to do it fast enough.

Therefore, I would like to contact my congressman and ask for help to
speed things up. Can anybody tell me how to do this? I don't know
where to start. Do I call them by phone and what number should I
call? And who do I ask for? Do you think they will help me?

Thank you so much.

Either look them up in the blue section of your phone book and/or online. Online you can see if they have a department which assists immigrants. Not all do. Our present represent does NOT offer any services regarding immigration.

Then either call or write them via snail mail or e-mail. Some will not do anything until they receive a specific form from you by mail or fax.

Look him/her up on www.house.gov by typing your zip code or something like that. You may have to download a release form from his/her website and sign it, that allows him/her to work on your behalf. Then, mail it and all the other necessary papers you have for your case to him. Might want to call him/her in couple days to make sure they received it.

Not to be negative, but I asked for help in NYC: Mailed two letters and faxed them aswell to 2 different politicians. No help or reply received.

Thank God everything turned out just fine, and today my husband is finally with me.

Wish you better luck, but all I did was a waist of time. The least they could have done was to reply stating that they currently don't offer immigration help or something along those lines.

If they are processing June 2002 apps, does that mean those who filed in June should be expecting an interview soon?

We filed in October 02, and my wife gets excted everytime she sees a BCIS letter arrive in the mail now (but it's just my EAD stuff atm). 4 months away from interview would be great.

I know how you feel. We filed our AOS Feb. of 2002 but haven't heard a thing.

I tried all the means I could communicate with USCIS but nothing works. I also don't trust the 800 number because they're just bunch of telephone operators with script on their hands.

I tried to ask help from our congressman but they don't accept any form of mail. They want us to come to their office before they give their service to us.

Thanks so much for your replies. I sent an email to my rep, Carolyn
McCarthy (wish me luck). I will let you know if she ever replies.

Claire23 - can you please let me know also once you get your interview
date? I just feel so all alone in this predicament and I would like
to have a buddy for support. I promise I'd do the same to you.
Appreciate it much.

Take care everyone!
