Hi

I currently in the process of applying for a H2B which would start in April 2016. If the application is successful, would I be allowed to visit the US on Holiday (for a friends wedding) in March on a visa waiver?

If so, can I go on holiday in march and just stay until the visa commences, rather than going back home for a couple of weeks at quite an expense and inconvenience. Obviously I would do this if its the only way.

Yes.


No, you can't stay. You don't actually need to go home, but you must exit the US in order to be admitted in H2 status. It's the status that allows you to work. A quick trip to Canada or Mexico should suffice.

So it would be considered acceptable by border control officers for me to arrive in USA on a Visa Waiver on March 3rd, stay until march 30th, leave for Canada or Mexico for a couple of days then start my H2B?
