my husband is in Guatemala attempting to checkin for a flight today to usa. We live in USA, have valid visa and L1, however he stupidly forgot to take his old passport which has the visa stamp and airline wont check him in. Is it a bad thing if he applies for esta now just to get back to USA (then we figure out him leaving and coming back with his visa so he's here with correct status)? only other option is for me to fly with his passport to Guatemala but no so easy.....

He cannot apply for ESTA because he has a US visa. I may be wrong but only US citizens and visa holders can enter the US from Guatemala...if so ESTA is of no help even if he could apply for it.

This might be a silly question, but do FedEx, UPS, DHL not deliver to Guatemala?

He stays an extra day or two in Guatemala, you courier the passport to him (you should be able to google the fastest service to get it there). It will save a lot of hassle down the road.

yes test required for entry to USA from Tuesday , by stroke of luck we just found someone flying to Guatemala tomorrow to take his visa. and relax.....

You can apply for ESTA while holding L1 visa.
