Question HELP - Job Offer in US

I have recently been offered a job in Palm Beach Florida. I am currently a 18 year old student living in the UK and honestly don't know where to start... I have a full UK driving license but is this even valid ? Where do I start with green card application etc ? Do I fill it in or my employer? What is the deal with medical care and insurance ? How do I get my money over there ( what banks ) and how long does this whole application take? Can I become a temporary employee and then whilst in US move to permanent? Basically I have no idea and just need clarity and advice on everything. Housing is sorted but thats about it. All help welcome.

What kind of job is it? Has the employer said which visa they're going to get for you? Do they even know themselves?

Don't take this the wrong way, but this "job offer" is unlikely to mean very much. At your age and experience, the chances of securing a job and moving to the USA are pretty slim to non existent.

The position is aviation related and obviously for reasons I can't go into too much detail. They are looking into visas. They are serious about this position and getting me over there due to my experience and skills / qualities I have.

Hi and welcome.

First things first--what sort of visa are they offering you? Anyone and their cousin can get a "job offer" but you will need a visa to legally work here. You do not apply for the visa--the employer applies on your behalf and you must fall into a very specific set of conditions, conditions which are rather difficult for most 18-year-olds to meet I'm afraid to say (but not impossible).

If you can tell us what visa you will get (or what visa they are thinking of using) we can then help you on the next steps on how to get started and settled and whatnot, but absent some clear guidance on the visa it's very difficult for us to get into the details accurately and efficiently.

Good luck.

UPDATE: Just saw your post--please let us know when they find out. Are you in the aircraft engineering, maintenance or operational aspects (or a pilot)? There are H1 visas for aviation personnel but they require a 4-year university degree or nearly a decade of experience.

Well without too much detail, you aren't going to get a lot of help. Detail is crucial to US immigration.

It is up to the employer to file a petition for your work visa. There is nothing for you to do at this point except find out which visa it will be.

Once they have filed a petition and committed to your visa, then you can start thinking about all your other questions.

If they come back to you and say "we will hire you if you sort out your own visa", then it's a dead-end for you, as there's no way to get a work visa on your own.

So the employer has not yet stated what type of visa I would have. The position however would be permanent. It is a start up company with a lot of potential and secure partners.

This definitely does not sound as though it's going to lead to you getting a job in the USA.

Any idea on what type of work visa they need to file if they are looking at hiring me full time on a permanent position?

No idea without knowing more about the job. Doesn't seem like H1-B because that job must require a degree, and you must have a degree in that field (or 12 years experience), neither of which seems likely at your age.

Not an L visa because it's not an intercompany transfer.

Maybe O-1 specialist, but again at age 18 you are unlikely to have the years of experience and notariety required.

So obviously most of you believe it is not possible. However is it possible to get a temporary work visa and then if all goes well it can be transferred to a permanent visa ?
