I need a way of getting there and that does not appear to exist at the moment.

Hope i am wrong but it looks like i am not.
So you want to find a way and then think about the problems? How do you know your funds would be sufficient in that case?

Generally speaking, there are only 3 visa types (family, employment, and investment). If you "have funds to last us without working", then perhaps an investment visa will work for you. If not, it's the end of the road, I'm afraid.

If you are savings rich and income poor the Exchange offers a good deal.

In that case, there are numerous countries which would be easier to immigrate to than the US.

In fact, they all would.

Quite simple, I like the place! The way of life, the weather, the people, there is no language barrier, the property compared to English property is far superior in terms of size.

I have been to Florida several times travelling from as far as St Augustine north east down to Key West and up the west coast to north of Tampa.

I am at present looking at Spain as this is at the moment out second choice, it seems I will not be able to move to the US.

A lot have mentioned healthcare costs, I am ignorant on this subject as in the UK we do not directly pay for this.

Approximately what would it cost a month to cover two adults age 55?

I found this list a while back (cannot remember where from - someone probably posted it in here) whilst looking into how much our medical costs would be.

It depends on so many things - but my guess based on the below would be you would be looking around $2000-$2500/month for both of you?

$250--basic coverage for a 24-year-old non-smoker (with a high deductible)
$600--good coverage for a 30-year-old married couple.
$1500--very good coverage for a 40-year old couple with two children
$1500--a 65-year-old retiree who is not eligible for Medicare
$2200--a 75-year-old with a history of high blood pressure not eligible for Medicare.

That depends on your income, you get credits is with low income, savings are not considered.

And where you live.

About $700 for the basic per month, but the credits could mean zero.

OP stated that they are not going to work though. What would that mean?

Not working would generally mean no income (I understand their are exceptions to this).

Are you saying if you are in the US and have no income you will get credits to give you free medical insurance?

At that age Bronze would be free or very close to it assuming you had low income.

The way I read it was that they had substantial savings, savings produce income, how much would be the issue.

In America, no income generally means no home and no food. ..... There are very few exceptions to this.

Under the Affordable Care Act, yes, those on the lowest income levels have little or no cost insurance available to them. There are still copays and deductibles which might be challenging to afford if you are below the poverty line.
