Health insurance when I land?

Dear All,

I've spent the last 2 hours calling nearly 30 different insurance agents and brokers
here in the UK. NONE of them will do a health/travel insurance that will cover me up
until I marry and pass onto my fiancee's insurance. The reason is that they only
cover return journeys and not one way tickets.

Am I better to land and then find a short term policy from an American insurer? And
if that is the case do I have to have an SS number etc first? I was just wondering
how you guys all did it?

Thanks Joe

Joe,

Virgin Atlantic were going to sell me whatever Travel Insurance I wanted - and I
booked a one-way through them!!!! After reading your post I'm seriously considering
calling them back and getting it!!!!

Though we're also talking about looking into a joint policy to get us started when I
get there!! Travel Insurance isnt really any good anyway - only good for Emergencies!

I'll let you know how I get on!

Later dude! Steve

Nooooooooooo! lol Stop, hold the phones one second. This is where I do know what I am
talking about.

I worked for Axa Insurance in London. They wouldn't even insure their own employee.

Virgin Atlantic will sell you insurance for the journey only. However, the insurance
is all but useless as any claims would be dependent on UK residency. As soon as you
leave the airport you are technically no longer a UK resident so your insurance would
be void immediately. Also, you would have no medical cover or personnal possessions
cover until AFTER your marriage. There are a whole host of reasons why an Underwriter
would not cover you for such a short period and in such unique circumstances (I was
an Underwriter until last week, even I wouldn't cover myself) lol.

However, there is a Company (the only one in the Country) who specialise in this sort
of thing. I have insurance to cover, my flight, my belongings and me up until my
wedding. This includes all medical insurance and possessions and travel.

Let me stress, that this is a highly specialised policy. Due to the whole issue of
residency hardly any Insurers will cover you. Please trust me on this, I can go into
details, but as I was an Underwriter, trust that I know how it works regardless of
what some Insurance Companies might tell you. They just want your premium.

A regular policy will become void and claims will be repudiated.

The Company I used for my insurance are called.

R D T Limited

telephone number 01245 420 125

Give them a shout and tell them exactly what you want. My premium was £137 for seven
weeks cover. That is a good price believe me.

I hope that this helps!

Much Love

Becki

American Express travel insurance will cover you with a one-way ticket. I used this when I went over with my K1, because I wanted my belongings insured on the flight.

The policy came with 5 days health coverage, but I'm sure they will extend this if you request it. The cost for me was about £35 - you don't need an AmEx card or anything.

Hope this helps,

Mike.
