have i messed up forever?
To cut a long story short! during an attack of severe clinical depression some three years ago I got arrested in the UK. no charges were brought therefore no record or even court. According to what I have read I dare not try to enter USA as I have been arrested. Any facts would be appreciated. Even if it is bad, I guess I am better off knowing.

Sorry to hear about your arrest, but also the misinformation you've been given.
You should be fine if you're visiting, afaics. The visa waiver form says:
"Have you ever been arrested or convicted for an offense or crime involving moral turpitude or a violation related to a controlled substance; or have been arrested or convicted for two or more offenses for which the aggregate sentance to confinement was five years or more; or have been a controlled substance trafficker; or are you seeking entry to engage in criminal or immoral activities ?"
If you don't fit into the above categories, you're fine. It depends on the exact charges.
If you want the official, official version, check it out here: http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/frv...ties_1364.html

Re: have i messed up forever?
thank you all for your replies - cheered my up! Especially to lapin_windstar for real help. sorry to hear about Florida being closed but I already went there 35 years ago! I travelled to US many times during my twenties and thirties and had a ball. I am not a drug-dealer etc, just a now 60 year old "middle-everything" and was afraid to go back to US with my husband in case of rejection.
