Re: H4 to J1 transfer question
Can I get an J1 being on an H4 ? Yes - either by doing a change of
status or by applying for a visa abroad. Will I keep my H4 (and have 2 visas) or will the H4 be transfered into a J1 ? A visa is a travel document, that allow you to enter in the US. I think that your question is about status rather visa. Your status will become H4 (you can only have one status at a time). If you apply for a J1 visa abroad, you will have 2 visas. Otherwise, next time you go abroad, you will have to apply for a J1 visa in order to come back in the US with a J1 status. Is it a problem that the company is my the company sponsoring my husband's H1 ? I don't think that should be a problem. Actually, you may not even have to disclose it. |
Re: H4 to J1 transfer question
he/she means - once you apply for a change of status to J1 and it is approved, you will be in J-1 status.
be careful, though. Make sure J-1 doesn't carry a home residency requirement - you won't be able to get H4 or GC until you spend two years at home. |
