Hello,
I am a recent grad student in OPT and I have a few basic questions
regarding work visas:
- How much does it cost to file for an H1B visa?
- What are the forms and prices?
- How long does it take till you get the actual visa?
- Since the number of visas is already reached. Nobody can get an H1B
visa until oct next year?
Thanks in advance for your help!

H-1Bs are unavailable for this and next fiscal year. The earliest start date you can request is October 1, 2007. You can apply for this up to six months in advance, or April 1, 2007. Please keep in mind, you cannot apply for this yourself; rather, a U.S. employer must offer you a qualifying job and file a petition on your behalf. Fees are as follows:
Base fee: $190; Fraud fee: $500; ACWIA fee: $750 or $1,500 (depending upon size of company); premium processing fee (optional): $1,000.

The application is $190. Then there are a bunch of additional fees. All this has
to be paid by the prospective employer. Their lawyer most likely knows this stuff.
