I got my green card about 3.5 years ago, and at the time I was told that
I would be able to apply for citizenship after 5 years, assuming I
didn't leave the country for more than 6 months at a time. However I'm
not sure how these regulations have changed now that the INS has been
reformed so much.
Next January I'll be putting in my papers to do 2 years of missionary
work for my church. If I'm sent overseas, this obviously may present a
problem with coming back permanently afterwards. Does anybody know what
the current regulations are in such a situation, or where I might find
out easily? Government websites are, as you know, extremely difficult
to work with.
Thanks.
