Finally, seven weeks after my citizenship interview I got my oath ceremony
letter yesterday.
Friday March 30th here in Phoenix.
Only small cloud on the horizon is that we fly to the UK for a vacation on
Tuesday April 10th so I won't be able to get a passport before the trip. I
assume (as I will no longer have my green card) that I'll have to take my
certificate of naturalization with me on vacation and that it will get me
back in when I return?

Ideas:
1/ Go to the passport office (believe it's either Colorado or LA for AZ -- can't remember which) and get one in person.
2/ Order your passport expedited the day of your ceremony and get someone to mail it to you in Blighty for the return trip.

You frightened the living daylights out of me with this. My immediate
reaction was to postpone my oath ceremony but I went online at 6 am this
morning and got an InfoPass appointment for this afternoon to see if I can
get some advice.

Well, I had my infopass appointment and basically they said, we can't help
you, tough!
I called Border protection and the lady said I would be able to return
with my Naturalization Certificate but she couldn't say how long the delay
would be at the POE, she did say it would probably be quite long.
LA and Denver are both at least 2 day trips, I'll have to think about
that. They are saying that expedited passports are taking 4 weeks at the
moment so that option is out.
I really don't want to postpone the ceremony and I really don't want to go
to LA or Denver so I may just take my chances at the POE, at least I've
got over 3 weeks to think about it.

Well, sounds like you'll just have to put in the application for the passport then and have someone pick it up at your home once it arrives, then send it to you in the UK. Doesn't sound that hard and complicated to me.
