GC process and XRay for pregnant women...
Hi,
We got a notice letter from INS that we need to redo all the medical exams
for teh GC process. We got a doctor through INS list and we started our
medical exams. The problem started when [OB/GYN] doctor sent a medical
decription letter to INS doctor saying that my wife is pregnant. But the
INS doctor says that it is not enough and he [OB/GYN doctor] should write
down that my wife can't take an XRay.
I'm caught in the middle of the two doctors. I thought that by law the
pregnant applicants are exempts from the XRays as such all it is needed is a
prove of the pregnancy. Meanwhile I do not want to "tell" to doctors how to
do their job.......so I'm really caught in the middle of this delicate
situation.
Any idea what should I do ????
Thank you very much in advance,
G.Y.

Go ahead and tell them how to do their job. After all, for them it's a job,
for you & yours it's life. Get the letter explicitly stating that she can't
be xray-ed.

My wife was pregnant, and is also a nurse, when she had her x-ray. After a little research she was ok with it just put on 2 lead gowns covering her belly, only leaving her chest exposed.

This would work early on in pregnancy. Toward the end, when the baby is
pushing up into the lungs, it would be impossible to adequately shield the
baby and get a good x-ray of the lungs at the same time.
However, I should think the OP's wife's Ob/Gyn would have no problem writing
a letter specifically stating that she cannot have an x-ray. That would
satisfy the immigration doctor and all would be well.
