One of our neighbors received a conditional 'green card' a little more than a year ago, 2
months ago her husband left. Packed up and walked out. He has not contacted her and has
never explained his decision to abandon the marriage. What should she do? What happens if
the time comes to file for removal of change of status and she does nothing? What happens
if her husband is nowhere to be found, what recourse does she have?

First she must file a missing person report with the local police. It is important to
"date" these occurances with offical records. And besides, there could be circumstances
(chemistry of the brain, acting under duress due to some external compulsion etc...) that
the police could investigate and create more records possibly favourable to her removal of
conditions. Apparently she has survived 2 months w/o the husband; she could survive for
another 9 months in the same location, perhpas ? The husband who left may come back and
file I-751 together. If not, she could file to remove conditions on her own on the basis
that she entered into a genuine marriage.
