Unfortunately you're coming into high season price wise now. My husband has used www.cheapflights.com (a collection of wholesale travel operators) to fly over here from Birmingham. He has also flown from London. Right now a one way on that cheap flights.com shows Birmingham to Savannah at 425 quid with tax in August one way. The same exact flight on expedia was over 1240 bucks.... On my computer reservation system at work (I'm a travel agent) the rate was over 2000 bucks!!! Depending on your age you might also want to see if the airlines are offering youth fares (cheaper one ways).

We used eBookers to bring Steve's mum over at Christmas time and found it the cheapest. Other sites people have listed as getting good deals on we put on our website:

I've heard BA have some special offers right now - but now sure what the rates are.

I think the 2 best sites are expedia and travelocity - they always come up cheapest for me.

I have booked my next flight to US via expedia, and booked from london. By getting a cheap BA/easyjet/Ryanair flight to London, I have found this can cut the cost by up to £200. (for 2 people)

Last time I came over I found the cheapest price for the flight I wanted on Thomas Cook.. I know it surprised me too.

When I called them instead of booking through the website as I wanted to make some specific arrangements and the website wasn't that flexible the price actually came down too. I was also able to book some flights that expedia and travelocity did not have availability on.

I have been an inveterate traveller for more years than most. For the last
few years I have always booked my flights through
http://www.globalholidays.co.uk . They offer an excellent choice of
airlines, destinations and points of departure. Check their prices online
and then phone the number it gives on the site. They sometimes find you
better deals than they have online.

Example flight: One way. Manchester to Washington Dulles in August. £221.
Give them a try.

Alfie..

All the US fares on BA are for November/December.

I have travelled a lot to the US. The best fares are usually through lastminute.com and ebookers.com (both usually about the same price). Fares for August are really expensive though (about £420 to the East Coast).

My last fare was less than £200 to Baltimore on the BA sale but that ended on 15 May.

They say airlines are losing money and going out of business yet they sometimes have less than half full planes (BA do regularly) but still want to charge very high prices over the summer months!

If you don't mind the inconvienience also check out the possibility of flying to Dublin with British European (who are always having sales) and then flying with Aer Lingus, who are very often cheaper than BA, AA etc flying out of London.

Just a thought
