No problem Kellie, actually i double checked the dates and i sent off for the
fingerprints from the feds on 10th October... and got them back Nov 2nd.. so almost
exactly three weeks.
Now its a matter of keeping the flame alive and not being too stressed before the
interview.

Awwwwwwww, Doug, we think so, too!! How are you getting to the interview, BTW?
Stephen said there's some strike going on with air transportation that might
interfere with his getting over to Sydney in time, and he is contemplating taking a
bus 2 days ahead.. yeech. Is that true love, or what?? What are your plans? - Rae

Dumb question, but I was wondering, when you get your prints taken in Oz, do you have to get the full fingerprint check or can you have the check done by name only? (I think I know the answer to this one). Also, do you go to a local police station in Sydney to do this and then they forward it on to the Australian Federal Police or how does it work?

Hi, Spud,
You're right, you need to get the full fingerprint check. You can get this done in
Sydney, or by any local police department in your area in advance of the interview.
The reason my fiance, Stephen, went to the Australian Federal Police is because the
fingerprint processors were on strike in Melbourne, and nothing was moving. He was
contacted by Melbourne Police Headquarters and they suggested we try Canberra. That
was successful, so we passed this information on to the newsgroup to save others some
headaches. Hope this clarifies the process for you! - Rae

Slightly off topic, but somewhat related..
Can any aussies share their experiences with the police clearance.. Still waiting on
2nd NOA here, but looking around on the web at some forms it seems to indicate you
need a clearance from every locality you've lived for a period of 6 months or more
since you were 16?
What was required on your part when you got your clearance?
Just one for Australia as a whole?, or one for each state you've lived in?, each
town/city?.. Or does it even count different suburbs in the same city as a different
local? Wondering how much travelling around will be involved for this part once we
reach that point in our application.
Thanks for any info
Will

Hi, Will,
Here's the good news: If you go to any local police station in Australia, the police
certificate will cover anywhere and everywhere you've ever lived in Australia! So
one-stop shopping is all that's required. If you lived in any other country, you'll
have to get a separate police certificate from that place. My fiance waited ages to
get his from New Zealand. If you have the misfortune to live in Melbourne, you will
find that after you have had your fingerprints done, they must be sent to the
Federal Police in Canberra for processing. The reason for this is that the
fingerprint processors in Melbourne are on strike, so nothing's getting done. If you
live anywhere else, you should be just fine letting your local police headquarters
process them. The average processing time seems to be around 3 weeks. Hope this
information is of use to you! - Rae (not the Aussie, but getting very familiar with
how this all works!)

Hi Will, just one for all of Australia, obtainable through your localpolice station.
You have to get a full fingerprint check, not just the name check.
If you are in victoria, the good news is it looks like the workbans are finished, but
there may still be some holdup with a backlog. I snet mine off to the AFP .. via
their website and got them back ($103) within 22 days of posting.
