My wife has parole status in the U.S. as follows, acquired at re-entry under the
advance parole travel document granted to her with AOS:

PAROLED 6/01 until 6/02 PURPOSE: To resume application for adjustment of status

Is she an eligible noncitizen to apply for federal student aid benefits with the
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)?
(U.S. Dept. of Ed. seems to indicate certain parole statuses do qualify the alien)

The fact that your wife entered on AP does not really give her her immigration status
which is pending adjustment of status and that's what you need to look at. I know for
determining whether a student will qualify for in-state tuition rates, the state
and/or the college itself sets the qualifications and it may be that way with FAFSA -
I'm afraid I don't know for sure. Generally states require you to be a permanent
resident - the fact that you may have to wait several years for that usually causes
disbelief but no relief from the schools!

Andy.

Chris - she has to have, at a minimum, conditional permanent resident status -
usually means a green card or an A# stamped in her passport...

I ran into the same situation with my wife last year... let me know what you find
out.. regards [Bill]
