Default F-4 Visa Confusion!

Hi, everyone! First post here. Thanks for providing such a helpful forum!

My situation is this: I am a UK citizen, living permanently in Australia. My sibling is about to become a US citizen and we plan on applying for an F-4 visa for him to sponsor me to live there. I know that this will take many years and a certain orange somebody would like to close down the pathway altogether, but fingers crossed.

My question is this: from what I can tell, the US only recognises marriage for the purposes of including spouses on visa applications. I am in a long standing relationship but am not married. However, by the time this application gets assessed, it’s likely we will be. So... I know I can’t include her on my application when it’s lodged, but am I able to update that application before it’s assessed, to add my changes in circumstances such as marriage, family etc., and add those parties to my application?

Thanks for reading and for any help!

EDIT: Also, I'm not fully sure about my ability to visit the US with an I-130 pending. I'd normally do so just using ESTA and would understand if more rigorous questioning was given, but surely an application wouldn't see me effectively locked out of the country for the entire processing time?

20 plus years and many are in favour of Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

Wife and minor children only come into play when the visa number becomes current, a lot can happen in that sort of time period.

Has no impact on VWP visits.

Thanks, Boiler. Current bulletin indicates about a 13.5 year waiting time for the UK at the moment, but point taken - it's a long time! Very much a matter of thinking about possibilities over a decade away, but one day that moment might come! Certainly won't without trying.

Fingers crossed any reform won't be applied retroactively to existing applications.

Interesting to actually see those figures in front of you and realize the massive disparity from year to year.
