Default F-1 Visa Interview not in my country of origin

Hi everybody,

A very quick question:

F-1 visa interviews do not need to be conducted in one's country of nationality, is that correct?

Thanks,

Phil

Generally, you need to be a resident of the Consular district where you want to apply. Some Consulates' webpages discuss third-country nationals and the local policy.

As a general rule, a consulate is not obligated to process any visa application made by a 3rd country national. They might... they might not. You'll never know for sure unless you try.

Hi:

Of course it can be done. The chances and the reasons in each individual case differ. For example, a potential F-1 from Iran cannot apply at the US Embassy in Tehran -- they ceased visa issuance thirty years ago when the Embassy shut down.

Also, the test is usually country of residence.
