Default Expired work visa but marrying a US citizen

I have a friend who plans to marry a lady who came to the US on a work visa.
It has expired but she still works here and pays taxes. What would be the
best route to correct this situation?

Assuming that your friend is a USC, she can file for adjustment of status (form I-485) once they are married, and apply for Employment Authorization (form I-765).

she should not leave the country until she has been granted permanent recidency.

How does one get this paperwork?
Where do you go or who do you see?
