Default Emergency travel document: Get it or not?

Hi all

I am due to travel back to UK in few weeks time, and my British passport expired recently and wondered if anyone has had any experience of travelling on an emergency document. My main questions are:

1. Will the British consulate produce the emergency document for me or will they insist in me renewing my passport from here.

2. Any restrictions on travelling with an emergency document?

Thanks for the replies.

Guessing that you are still in Australia - its pretty quick to renew a British passport here, timelines seem to be only 2-3 weeks so if you have time to do it I doubt that they will give you an Emergency Travel document...only way you'll know for sure is to ring and ask though.

ETD at the moment costs $157 US.

Can only make appointments to get one 5 days before travel date.

They are good for one round trip, stopping off at up to 5 destinations.
