EAD for wife

We are going to be relocating from London to Texas on an E2 visa (I hope)

My wife is a teacher, who will probably become a substitute teacher in Texas.

Can the EAD be processed whilst we are still in the UK ? So she can start working when we arrive in Texas ? or does this need to be done when we arrive ? If so, how long does an EAD take to process ?

Thanks,

Re: EAD for wife

Applied after entering on her visa as your spouse. About 100-120 days.

Plus she will probably be required to have a license to teach by the state of Texas.

After arrival.

About 90 days.

She will probably also need to get licensed to teach in the USA.

If Texas law is similar to NC then requirements for being a sub teacher is nothing like that of a "real" teacher.

In MA, anyone with a high school GED can sub...but if you're not friends of people in the know, you'll be so far down the district list to not be worth it or given the really shit schools.

Plus the pay is shit.

from what I hear, "subbing" is the only way to get near good schools. They get to know you and you'll get to hear about the jobs.

Fairly sure that's the deal here. I was shocked when my teacher MiL told me.

Does she teach a subject that is easily transferable to a US curriculum -- e.g. not European history! ;)
