Default EAD at point of entry or local office?

Hi

I'm still waiting for noa2 but I've been thinking of the other
things(perhaps too far ahead) that need to be done.

I will be living quite near a field office and I was wondering if it
is possible and straight forward to just go in and get your EAD before
marriage, or whether you would recommend spending the extra to fly in
via JFK and hopefully get it there.

Thanks

Derek

In our case, it was definitely worth it for my husband to fly in through JFK on an extra connecting flight from London to Dulles and (we hoped) get the 90-day stamp -- which he did. We had heard that getting the 90-day EAD from a field office could take up to 90 days which didn't make much sense to us! And he had a job offer before he came over so it was really important he be able to work soon.
Our timeline, as an example, is below.

Definitely worth flying through JFK. I also got my 90 day stamp there, as I didn't want to wait 90 days for something I couldn't use when I eventually got it! There's no telling how long your local office will take to issue it.
