Default EAD in New York

Two quick questions,

- Has anyone been through the EAD experience in New York recently on the back of an L-2 Visa (Lottie: are you still around?) and if so, how long did the application take?

- Is there anyway to speed up the process (personal visits to central state processing locations etc.)?

Thanks in advance,

I once had an EAD on L2-Status, but not in New York.
You have to file at the Service center which is responsible for your area. Read the instructions on the I-765.
Processing times vary for the Service centers. I had to apply through Nebraska (2 years ago), and it took axactly 90 days.

Just a couple of months ago I had to apply again, and this time, it only took 50 days.

I have never heard that there is a way to speed the process up. If, after 90 days, you didn't get your EAD, you are eligible for an interim EAD.

We applied for one last year in NYC. Had to send it off to somewhere a long way away though. Vermont rings a bell, but i'm not sure.. My advice to speed it up, don't use a lawyer!! It's a very simple form, quicker, easier and cheaper to do yourself. Took maybe 50 days as i remember. We applied late June, and it came through early September.

Yes, for an L-2 EAD, it would be St. Albans, Vermont. You can get the
exact address from the USCIS.GOV Web site. Be sure to use the correct
address for the particular form you are filing (I-765) and follow the
instructions. They may be using different P.O. Boxes for different types
of case.
